As usual, the Paleo community has been generating some great discussion lately. On Thursday, Mark Sisson published a second post (the first is here) on health integrity, which he defines as “an honesty to one’s self, a commitment that begins and ends with one’s self, an inner compass that has nothing to do with the outside world.” This is such a fantastic observation because it really gets to the heart of why Paleo is so life-changing: health integrity is what separates a “diet” from a “lifestyle.” It’s about escaping the emotional toxins of modern food culture as much as the physical ones.
The first one of these posts is amazing inspirational reading, and the second has some practical suggestions for developing more health integrity in your own life. This is definitely a framework to keep in mind if you’re talking to your vegetarian friends, because it’s very nonconfrontational and gives you a psychological foundation that lets you consider other points of view without getting defensive.
Closer to home, springtime means new seeds, and a chance to grow some veggies much more nutritious than anything you can find in the grocery store! Like buying your meat directly from the farmer, this is another fantastic way to cultivate (literally!) some health integrity by taking more responsibility for what you put on your plate, and save some money at the same time. Take a look at our garden page on Pinterest for some inspiration, and haul out your own egg cartons this weekend to get a new crop started.

Plants aren’t the only thing growing lately, either. Dallas and Melissa Hartwig’s planned April Fool’s Day post got April Fooled by Mother Nature, when their new baby Atticus Stone actually was born on the 29th. Congratulations!
This week on the site, we posted a classic Eggs Benedict recipe and this summery and delicious sirloin steak with avocado salad.
