What’s Happening: Yea To High Fat Diets, Nay To Vegetable Oils

I spend quite a bit of time browsing many websites and blogs apart of the Paleo Community in hopes of finding new and/or useful information to share with the community. Sometimes I find the most interesting pieces outside of anything Paleo and this is the most exciting, because it assures us that awareness is being raised all around. For instance, take this article from the Atlantic, titled “How Vegetable Oils Replaced Animal Fats in the American Diet.” You may have already picked up on it a few weeks ago on our Facebook page, but it is just so great that I continue to share it.

Not too long ago Mark Sisson over at Mark’s Daily Apple published an article about why a high-fat diet is actually healthy. The question of whether or not a high-fat diet is actually healthy is answered through various other common questions asked. This format is great, because many other things you have probably been questioning will for sure be answered there. We also came across this article addressing the same topic, but putting more focus on why a fatty salad dressing is better for your health than the light or diet versions. The idea of adding more fat into your diet will most likely come as a shock to most (that is, those who are not Paleo), as it just so happens to be one of the greatest misconceptions out there.

We recently published a great article on our website about healthy starches. If you have not already read it, you must! Take some time to learn more about the ever so controversial white potato. You may surprise yourself and let it slip into your diet…in moderation of course!

Are you a migraine sufferer? I once was, so when I stumbled across this article, I had to share. Dr. Briffa explains that one of the most common migraine triggers is gluten, but if the Paleo diet has yet to cure you of your pain, perhaps magnesium supplements will.

Caveman and meatHow about some food for thought! We have been enjoying our latest purchase, a dehydrator! I would like to venture into making jerky, but I haven’t quite gotten there yet because I am still thoroughly enjoying the jerky that Steve’s Original so kindly sent us. I guess once I eat through it I will have some of my own jerky recipes to share! Just a side note about our dehydrator…it took us some time to settle on one. In fact, we spent quite a bit of time shopping for it because there are so many out there at such different price points. Anyway, I’m confident that we made the right choice, even more so now since our Nesco model is what Steve’s Original made their big break on!

Finally, check out our Strawberry Balsamic Vinaigrette recipe. Where I’m from, we are in the heart of strawberry season, so it’s a perfect recipe for the time of year. Use it atop a simple baby green salad, or even spinach and pair it off with a juicy steak and you have yourself a refreshing summer meal!
