I tend to socialize quite a bit, both with people following a Paleo diet and people who don’t. As I am sure most would agree, a very large part of socializing happens to involve food. This can be quite difficult when I visit with those who do not lead the same lifestyle as I do. The one thing that I have noticed with this circle of friends is that they spend way too much time concerning themselves with how to play host to me and my dietary needs and they do not realize just how easy it really is. More times than not, the dish they were planning to prepare is already perfectly healthy and Paleo, or very few adjustments have to be made to a dish to make it Paleo friendly. I try to bring this to their attention when I wear the chef hat by preparing simple, yet popular dishes. Here is one worth trying.
Chicken drumstick preparations are a classic American finger food that are enjoyed by many, but are more often than not prepared with very unhealthy ingredients. Mixtures of sugary sauces loaded with some kind of vegetable seed oil and loads of preservatives have become the norm for commercially prepared drumsticks. It gets even worse when the the drumsticks are deep-fried in a vegetable oil that’s been heated to high temperatures time and time again. Spicy and finger licking chicken drumsticks don’t have to be unhealthy though and the following recipe is a very simple and effective way to prepare them.
While many different combinations of herbs and spices can be used for chicken drumsticks, I wanted to keep things simple and use as few ingredients as possible to make it a recipe than can be prepared at the last minute while still tasting great. It’s oftentimes the simplest combinations that taste the best anyway. Here the garlic and chilli powder complement each other very well. Of course, the recipe can be altered to your liking and more complex spice combinations are great if you feel inclined to try them.
This is one that kids will enjoy very much and make them ask for more.
And there you have it! The Paleo twist on a popular American finger food. Serve that with a simple side, like some pesto mashed potatoes for example, and you’ve got yourself a quick and delicious meal.
P.S. Be sure to check out the Paleo Recipe Book. It’s a cookbook I’ve created to help you cook the best food for your health. It contains over 370 Paleo recipes and covers absolutely everything you’ll ever need.
